Anything
which comes in contact with hand can cause eczema
(allergy). The biggest enemies are water, detergents and
chemicals. House-wife eczema is the term given to irritant-dermatitis affecting those who do wet-work. Treatment lies in drying of hands, lubrication with vaseline, and medicated ointments. One of the common causes of hand eczema is "herbal " shampoo, well-tolerated by scalp but not by hands. |
Nail-fold infection is an extension of hand eczema. Soaps and detergents destroy the cuticle which separates nail from skin. Water penetrates inside and causes fungus to grow. Treatment lies in anti-fungal medications.

Prevention of hand eczema can be easily accomplished if the housewife wears gloves while working.
