How to Give Rest to Eyes

Palmning

Sit on a chair with a desk in front of you. Close your eyes and lightly cover them with your palms, with the fingers crossing at right angles. Place your palms in such a way that the nose remains uncovered and your eyes remain behind the hollows of te palms. Rest your elbows on the desk. The aim of this exercise is to prevent light rays from entering the eyes.

Looking at Distant Objects

Simply by looking at a distant object we can provide rest to the eye. This is because by looking at a distant object you are keeping the eyes in the anatomical position of rest.

Rhythmic Movements

Gentle rhythmic movements of the eye in all directions brings about relaxation of the eye muscles and can alleviate strain.

Head Movements

Sit comfortably. Keep your eyes closed. With your head, slowly and gently form a figure of '8' in the air. Move your head rhythmically and breathe rhythmically for 2-3 minutes. This also relaxes your eyes.

Hot & Cold Compresses

Alternate application of hot and cold compresses opens up small blood vessels and has a soothing effect on the eyes.

Water Splashes

For a few seconds sprinkle cold water from a running tap onto closed eyes.
