They are ordered by your doctor to diagnose illness, monitor your treatment and as a part of general health check-ups.
Lab tests can often determine why you are feeling ill, so that proper treatment can begin. Example: Malaria test.
Lab tests can show how well medication is working, or if dangerous side-effects are developing.
Even if you feel fine, lab tests can detect many illnessess before symptoms appear - when treatment is most effective.
