What Every Male Above 50 years Should Know !!!

What is Benigh Prostrate Hyperplasia (BPH)?
The secretions from the prostate gland are necessary for the sperms to be alive and mature.
BPH is one of the disorders of the Prostate gland. This gland in males encircles the urethra (external urinary passage) just near the outlet of the urinary bladder. As age advances, the prostrate gland tends to enlarge in size, as well as change its characteristics. Such a condition, which is not cancerous, is known as BPH.
This gland in BPH becomes a source of difficulty in urination.

How common is BPH?
BPH is the commonest condition affecting elderly males. After cataract operation, removal of the prostrate is the second most frequent operation performed worldwide. Surveys suggest that BPH is 60% of males over the age of 60, and in 70% of males over the age of 70.

How does a person recognize BPH?
It is surprising to know that a large number of patients of BPH do not have any symptoms!
But a BPH patient frequently visits the toilet during the day as well as at night. He would take a longer time to start urination or find a reduced urine stream, due to which his time of urination would be much longer than normal. He may also exhibit a sudden and uncontrollable desire to visit the toilet. Even after urination he may continue to experience discomfort and sensation of incomplete voiding. This sensation forces him to visit the toilet more frequently and sometimes even hourly!
However, sometimes he has only increased frequency at night and has a good stream and voids completely.
